Yuletide Pheasants

Rough Cooking > Pheasant Two Ways

Southern Ontario is blessed with an abundance of well managed public wetlands and today the Canada in the Rough™ team heads to Hullett marsh just outside the town of Clinton.

Hullett is a 2200 hectare site along the South Maitland River that is comprised of vast areas of marshland as well as hardwood forests, agricultural fields, fallow fields, and transitional grasslands. Water levels are controlled by a series of diked areas forming both large flooded marshes as well as a number of smaller marshes throughout the upland areas.

Although there is no charge to hunt pheasant in the fields and fence rows of Hullett, the Friends of Hullett saw a unique opportunity to maintain their pheasant stocking program while generating the necessary funds from hunters that use the site. Every year the Friends of Hullett band selected pheasants and these bands are associated with specific prizes. When you return the band and present your $10 ticket stub, you receive a prize. At the end of the season a general draw is made for all outstanding prizes.

Come along with us as the pheasant action can be fast and furious in the managed uplands of Hullett Marsh.
