Archery Apparel

When you head to the shop to buy apparel for your fall bow hunting adventures there are four key words to remember; quiet, warm, dry, and scentless. And think in terms of layers because you can always shed excess clothing as the day warms up, but you can’t add what you don’t have.

Moisture wicking undergarments are an important consideration. They will absorb sweat and draw it away from your skin, and keeping dry is your first line of defense in keeping warm. This is important when you make that long early morning walk to your stand or blind. You might feel real toasty when you first arrive, but if you’ve ever sat for a half hour in sweat soaked undergarments on a frosty morning you’ll know what I mean.

Consider a fabric like D-Teck that combines water resistance with scent elimination for both your parka and pants. The added feature of stretch side panels on your bib pants allow for varying thicknesses of under garments or – heaven forbid – a few extra pounds since last season. Be sure your outer garments are made from a brushed material that will not rustle when you move, even under the most extreme weather conditions. Getting busted before you even have a chance to draw your bow isn’t the best way to end the day.

Keeping your head warm and dry is just as important as keeping moisture away from your skin. For cold weather headgear look for a warm balaclava that will serve as both a hat and face mask and again the D-Tech system will keep you warm and dry while eliminating scent. Last but not least you’ll want a pair of warm, waterproof gloves with additional grip on the fingers and palms where you need it most when it comes time to draw your bow.

Even on days when the game doesn’t cooperate an investment in good quality clothing will really increase your enjoyment of the whole hunting experience.
