Auto Loaders

The autoloader, or semi auto, shotgun has become the mainstay of waterfowlers’. Its fast action combined with the benefit of being able to stay locked on target significantly increases your opportunities for success. But with guns available over a very broad price range what should hunters look for in a quality autoloader.

Well here are a few features that I look for; any or all of which will enhance your shooting enjoyment and ensure that your investment will become a loyal hunting companion for years to come:

  • Look for a superior recoil reduction system. Some newer guns even offer a hydraulic system that works similar to the shocks in your truck. Your shoulder will thank you when the shooting is fast and furious.
  • You don’t always hunt in fair weather so look for a gun that offers superior corrosion resistance and that all components are coated with corrosion inhibiting compound like Aqua Technology. This will ensure that not even salt spray will affect your new purchase.
  • Your gun should be easy to clean and have a bolt and action sleeve that slides out as a single unit, eliminating many of the hassles associated with cleaning an autoloader. And a gun that has a self-cleaning gas cylinder and piston will reduce the cleaning chore even further.
  • Above all your new gun should fit you. Look for a gun with a comfortable stock and forend to ensure a good grip and vibration reduction. And, you should be able to easily adjust the stock-drop and cast to provide a custom fit.

As with anything else you usually get what you pay for. Invest your money wisely in a smooth shooting, quality autoloader and you will have a reliable hunting companion for years to come.
