Excalibur Crossbows

Every year more and more regions throughout Canada and the United States are broadening their archery seasons to include the use of the hunting crossbow, bringing the enjoyment of bow hunting to thousands that would not otherwise venture into the realm of archery.  And with hunting seasons that are often measured in months rather than days the benefits to the hunter are clear.

The modern hunting crossbow bridges the gap between hunting with a rifle and hunting with a bow.  With a butt, stock, trigger mechanism, and safety that mirrors that of a rifle or shotgun it is seems natural for a dedicated rifle hunter to make the crossbow their firearm of choice when migrating into the world of archery.

As opposed to traditional recurve and compound bows where the string is drawn and held by the hunter in a vertical position, the crossbow string, once cocked, is held mechanically and fires from the horizontal position.  Because the bow is already drawn no additional bodily movement is necessary to fire a crossbow than the hunter would experience with a rifle or shotgun, making it an ideal firearm to shoot from a ground blind.

With blistering speeds of 285 to 350 feet per second the modern hunting crossbow will accurately deliver the arrow to the intended target with a relatively small drop inside of 30 yards.  Available in both compound and recurve styles, the recurve has the added advantage of simplicity.  Fewer moving parts means less maintenance and more time in the field.

So if you’re looking to cross over into the world of archery take a serious look at the advantages of the modern hunting crossbow.
